Canary Craftivists

Updated: Jul 19, 2021

Fantastic afternoon spent making canaries in the park with The Wood Street Craftivists today for the #CanaryCraftivists campaign.

This project takes a gentle, positive approach to climate activism and to show the UK Government and media that a diverse community is concerned about the climate crisis and want faster, greater action to be taken to tackle it.

Carbon emissions need cutting drastically and we need bolder action from politicians than ever before. We want to seize this opportunity and encourage the UK Government to show leadership in their important role at COP26 through this unique campaign.

I intended to crochet another canary, but it worked out that creating paper canaries was much more satisfying and meant that members of the public could join in too. We made a fair few to hang on the trees.

Also brought along my crochet and cross stitch canaries to leave behind.
